Trojans Defeat Erskine 3-0
Racey Bartley recorded 16 kills with no errors in 23 attempts to lead Mount Olive to a 25-21, 25-12, 25-22 victory over Erskine in Conference Carolinas women’s volleyball Saturday at Due West, S.C. The match marked the first meeting between the two teams in 13 years.
The win improves Mount Olive to 9-14 overall and 9-2 in Conference Carolinas play. The win also assures the Trojans of remaining in the top three in the conference standings.
Alicia Mote added 11 kills and two aces for Mount Olive, while Joanie Werling also had two aces. Bartley added six blocks for the Trojans. Mount Olive recorded 46 digs as a team, despite not having an individual player in double figures.
Erskine (8-12, 6-5) reinstated women’s volleyball this year after the sport was discontinued at the school following the 1996 season.
Mount Olive returns to action Tuesday as the Trojans play host to Barton in a Conference Carolinas match-up. The Trojans won the first meeting in three sets at Barton. Match time is 7 p.m. at Kornegay Arena.
